A Bounty of Twenty Four Boons
The Poets’ Way continues on the 14th January
The Poet’s Way explores the potency in words and poetic expression to complement and enhance our spiritual practice. It was formed in 2012 and is inspired by Manjusvara and his books. We do activities based around free writing and meditation. You can bring 4 copies of a poem for appreciation – your own or a favourite published poem Jane Hirshfield describes The Poet’s Way book as offering: “warm-hearted, step-by-step awakening into the possibilities and powers of poems”
Doors open at 5:15pm for a prompt start at 5:30 – ending around 9pm. We have a short comfort break and another longer 30-to-40-minute break for some veggie food we all bring to share.
Venue: Glasgow Buddhist Centre: 72 Berkeley St, G3 7DS. Upstairs from Glasgow Unitarian Church.
Dates for first part of 2024: 14th January, 4th February, 3rd March, 7th April, 5th May, 2nd June.
Plus online sessions on Zoom – near the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, Summer and Winter Solstices. Dates to be confirmed.
After an interesting and connective few years of trying out the Poet’s Way as an online, then hybrid meeting, we’ve decided to shift back to the core session being in person.
We aim to have quarterly online meet-ups so we can keep some of the thread of that energy.
Jo and I want to emphasise how lovely it’s been to connect with different people and have you all part of the group. It felt especially important during lockdown where it felt so lucky to still be nourished by what we’ve all created in the Poet’s Way – as a whole and in each session. Also to have that powerful sense of opening up to different places throughout the world. Thank you for that.

Dance of the Elements – 4th to 11th October 2024
A retreat expanding our horizons through language: opening to the wisdom of the body and integrating our heart and head. Each move in Tai Chi is a metaphor. The structured forms provide an inspiring backdrop for the creation of rhythmic patterns with words. Tai Chi, writing & poetry have much in common: form, structure, sensitivity and a striving towards wholeness. Clouds like thoughts come and go; inspired by the surrounding mountains, lochs & sky, we will combine writing with movement and mindfulness for our own wellbeing and for all living beings everywhere.

This week of Tai Chi, writing and meditation will trace our intimate relation to the dance of the elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, and Consciousness – with an overall theme of impermanence. Whatever arises from our practice we will use to play with the reality of our interconnectedness – write about it and share our stories.
