Linda France New Moon Writing Hour – 9th October 4pm

The end of next week, on Friday 9th October, it’s nearly the New Moon – and there’s a chance to gather once more for our Writing Hour (4-5pm BST), feeling out the words for what matters as we straddle the seasons, rebalancing ourselves between the stratosphere and the earth beneath us. Whether you’ve been before or are new, everybody is welcome. It’s free, a calm, peaceful space to write alongside others and feel the deep irrigation of interconnectedness. Open Call for Dhanakosa Retreat Centre Poetry Anthology

REMINDER

One meaning of Dhanakosa is ‘storehouse of treasure’ and it lives up to its name as a precious and significant place for all those who have stayed there on retreat, many of whom keep returning. Some people arrive with the specific intention to write poetry, others find themselves inspired and writing it anyway, even if they’ve never put pen to paper before. As a result of a generous offering, a small but beautiful print anthology of poems will be published in early summer 2027 to coincide with Dhanakosa’s 35th anniversary – and you are warmly invited to submit your poems to be considered for inclusion. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Dhanakosa charity. For more details: https://www.dhanakosa.com/open-call-dhanakosa-poetry-anthology

Poem of the Month

I swear by the music

I swear by the music of the expanding universe
and by the eloquence of the good in all of us
that I will excite the sick and the well
by the severity of my kindness
to a wholeness of purpose. I shall apply my knowledge,
curiosity, ignorance and ability to listen.

I shall co-operate with wondering practitioners
in the arts and the sciences,
with all who care for people’s bodies and souls,
so that the whole person in relationship
shall be kept in view, their aspirations and their unease.

The secrets of the universal mind
I shall try to unravel to yield beauty and truth.
The fearful and sublime secrets told to me in confidence
I shall keep safe in my own heart.

I will not knowingly do harm to my patients,
I will smile at them
and encourage them to attend to their dreams
and so hear the voices of their inner strangers.

If I keep to this oath I shall hope for the respect of my teachers,
and of my patients and of the community,
and to be healed even as I am able to heal.
